Imagine you’re a food truck owner in a competition measured by your sales – would you take a risk and sell your product for $205? Well, some guys did on the recent episode of Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race: All-Stars. It’s not every day that you come across food trucks battling it out for the number one spot but, these street-side chefs are ready to serve more than just your average meal.
A Food Truck Reality Show?
If you aren’t familiar with The Great Food Truck Race already, the Food Network reality television series began in 2010. Every season, 6 to 9 teams compete in a battle to sell their products in different places while also facing numerous challenges for the winning prize of $50,000 – and sometimes, they score their very own food truck. So, the stakes are high and the pressure even higher. Since 2010, the reality series has released 14 seasons, and in 2021, they released their all-star season, which premiered on 7th June.
Teams On Their Mark
In the season’s last episode, Teams Lime Truck, Utah’s Waffle Love, and Seoul Sausage battled head-to-head for the winning spot. Lime Truck, which sells Cali-Mexican food, initially won the 2nd Season of the reality series by pricing their sampler plate for a crazy $205. Many were surprised by their risky decision and even received backlash from fellow competitors by being called “slime truck”. On the other hand, Seoul Sausage, a team consisting of brothers Ted, Yong, and Kim, took the crown for Season 3. When it came to pricing, their highest menu item sat at only $70.
Like the Seoul Sausage, Utah's Waffle Love took the safe route by setting their highest menu item at $45 only. Utah’s Waffle Love is the only non-winner of the All-Star Season and is run by brothers Adam, Stephen, and Jared Terry.
Winner of The All-Star Season
While all the food truck teams had their own strategies and ideas for this challenge, the results came out to be shocking indeed. Lime Truck made its way to the top with only a 2 days’ sale that led to the team racking up $7,562. Seoul Sausage stood in the second position with $3,977, and in the third position, Utah’s Waffle house managed to earn $2,777.
Who knew a food truck competition could be so nerve-racking? Congratulations to Team Lime Truck for winning The Great Food Truck Race’s All-Star Season!
