Maybe it’s a trick of the eye but getting rid of clutter immediately makes a place look cleaner, and the same applies to your kitchen. This is completely different from having oil stains or a messy sink, or dusty counters.
It’s not so much about the kitchen being clean but that it doesn’t feel clean when there’s a lot of congestion. As long as you have things on your kitchen counters like plates, books, mail, or menus, it will always appear disorganized to you and doesn’t provide any encouragement for cooking.
Keeping your kitchen decongested immediately encourages you to love being in that space and will, at the same time, make cooking easier and much more fun for you. There’s just a major trick to it, and it’s simply to keep the kitchen counters empty, and there are some easily applicable ways to ensure it stays that way.
One of the most important things to do is to mess up the kitchen even more because you will have to make some decisions about what to keep and what to trash. One major problem with a congested kitchen is the presence of things you don’t need, so in this process, you’ll be selecting the important items and getting rid of the unimportant ones.
You may worry about how you can figure that out, but it’s relatively simple. Any kitchen items that you’re not making use of regularly don’t have to be in the kitchen, keep them somewhere else. As long as you have fewer items in the kitchen, the closer you are to complete decongestion, the more accessible the actual items you use will be.
You don’t need so many cups and bottles or bowls in your space while in the kitchen. The habit of having so many storage bowls for keeping things is not ideal. Use as little as possible and keep them in kitchen cabinets to avoid littering your counters.
The same goes for cups, chop boards, recipe books, hand towels, and pots, to mention a few. The truth is, you don’t need so many pots once you know the sizes that fit your cooking requirements. The general idea is that as long as you don’t use something in the kitchen regularly, avoid having it in your kitchen space, especially on your counters.
Once it’s up to half a year since you used an item, it’s better to wrap it up in a box and archive it in the store. If it stays in the store for an additional six months, you know it’s time to give that item out or sell it since you do not need it.
Mails can be problematic because it always seems like there’s no place for them except the kitchen counters. While that may be understandable, any clutter involving paper can quickly get out of hand, so even if it is impossible to keep mail off the counters, try placing them in a bowl so they are all together in one place and the counter is still neat.
