Chef Duff Goldman: “Everyone Should Know How To Bake A Cake”

Ever since his mother found her four-year-old son in the kitchen wielding a butcher knife while watching "Chef Tell" on television, Duff Goldman's heart has belonged to all things culinary. When he almost severed his pinkie while carving a pumpkin in the second grade, he realized that perhaps he wasn't meant to work in the kitchen. Duff began his professional career at the age of 14 at a bagel shop when he almost lost his job for making the sandwiches too large.

He has been giving cuisine his own wild twist ever since.

What Motivates Duff to Believe Everyone Should Learn to Bake a Cake

It's simple enough to buy a cake from a bakery, and in fact, the well-known chef is glad to fill orders upon orders for exquisitely adorned cakes, either from Charm City Cakes in Baltimore or through Goldbelly for delivery anywhere in the country. Duff, though, is well aware of the advantages of making cakes from scratch.

He revealed his ambitious aspirations for his 10-year-old Duff's Cakemix, where Los Angeles-based clients may book artistic cake decorating sessions, in a September 2022 interview with Tasting Table. In an exclusive with Tasting Table, he revealed that the joy clients have after successfully creating their own cake masterpiece is one of the reasons he is so eager to grow Duff's Cakemix to 250 U.S.-based shops with more planned abroad.

In addition to educating children and adults about the essential enjoyment found in learning how to take care of oneself by producing the food they love and love to share, he takes tremendous delight in sharing his skills and enthusiasm for cooking.

Why Does Baking Need to be a Universal Skill?

Every home baker, according to Duff Goldman, should be able to make three different types of baked goods, the most important of which is a cake. Why? Someone in your life is going to celebrate a birthday, graduate, or experience some other significant event, and they're going to require a cake, says Duff, who goes on to add that there's always a special occasion around the corner.

Cakes are among the highlights and unquestionably the center of attention at events ranging from weddings to retirement parties. Making the cake yourself not only helps to commemorate the occasion but may also reveal something even more significant. According to Duff, baking for those we care about is satisfying; it's a chance to express our affection.

A handmade cake may be a way to express your happiness at commemorating a significant event, even if it isn't an exquisite work of art. Oh, and the other two baked goods Duff believes we should all be able to make? A loaf of handmade bread and chocolate chip cookies. Even in the kitchen, having objectives is a good idea.
