The Duchess of Sussex has managed to maintain a strictly vegan diet, at least during the week. She takes a vacation from it on the weekends but clearly, it’s the effort that counts because this second-time mom has remained in amazing shape.
Meghan Markle’s vegan diet isn’t really about cutting all meat and animal products; she still eats what she wants. It’s not like there’s a list of good and bad foods, but including plant-based foods as a major part of her diet is deliberate for health and environmental reasons.
Meghan is a self-proclaimed foodie, and what makes it even better is that she loves to cook. A regular breakfast for her is steel-cut oats with banana and agave syrup. Traditionally she would start off with a slice of lemon and hot water and alternatively, her breakfast could have avocados and cheese omelet with some herbs.
Before she became the Duchess, a lot of her kitchen life was on her social media where you could see some of her favorite things to eat like kale, quinoa, and all sorts of fresh foods.
Lunch for the Duchess of Sussex has to include salads. She combines this with a vegetable seasoned quinoa, or on more relaxing days she prefers to grill up some fish tacos after stuffing them with onions and pepper. The star being born and raised in LA loves her fish tacos made Baja style.
With the almost certain energy drawback that comes around 4 p.m. most people refuel with a cup of coffee but Meghan has a secret recipe of her own that does the job of keeping her alert and energized.
She blends fresh produce like apple, kale, spinach, lemon, and ginger together in her vitamix blender and takes it to work with her. She has said that she always finds that sipping on the green juice is a much better boost than a cup of espresso.
Meghan isn’t always about healthy vegan eating, though. She occasionally indulges in fries or pasta, and she is a lover of good wine. Interestingly, her lifestyle blog, The Tig, was inspired by a red wine she absolutely loves called Tignanello. She noted that being overly restrictive only makes the cravings worse and the duchess never wants to feel deprived, so every once in a while she treats herself.
For dinner, Meghan could whip up some roast chicken or fresh seafood-filled cioppino. Roast chicken is exactly what she had prepared the evening Prince Harry proposed. She could also have one of her favorites for dinner, a creamy cacio and pepe pasta which she prepares by slow-cooking zucchini for about 4 hours and throwing it in with the pasta. The meal is so creamy it seems like there’s a whole lot of butter or cream in it but it’s just plain old healthy zucchini!
Meghan’s lifestyle is a perfect mix of healthy living and satisfying cravings. Definitely a style most people should go for in order to enjoy a sustainable diet.
